I am leading a panel on Digital Humanities and Spanish Literature and Culture at the NeMLA convention in 2022 in Baltimore, MD. Would you be so kind as to share the following abstract with colleagues and/or graduate students who may be interested in participating? They can submit their abstracts via this link.

“Digital Humanities in the Study of Spanish Literature and Culture”
Digital Humanities has the potential to add to the traditional study of Spanish Literature and Culture. By moving beyond the traditional theoretical frameworks of literary theory and criticism, Digital Humanities processes provide the opportunity to re-examine cultural production. Digital Humanities also provides an outlet to examine the intersectionality of Linguistics and Literature and Culture, combining two fields which have traditionally remained exclusive. Therefore, this panel provides the opportunity to showcase Digital Humanities projects and/or methods that incorporate digital tools in the interrogation of Spanish Literature and Culture, and/or those which combine Linguistics and Literature and Culture. It provides an opportunity to current and future scholars to learn about research in DH and Spanish and pose questions about the future of the field and the possibility of future collaborative work. Possible DH topics may include but are not limited to: Computational Digital Humanities (Topic Modeling, Named Entry Recognition, Semantic Analysis, Sentiment Analysis, Text Encoding, Network Analysis), Mapping and Geographical Work, Archival Work, and Web Publishing. Presentations may be in Spanish or English. To apply for this panel, please upload an abstract of 250-500 words outlining your project and methodological framework to this online portal.

Las humanidades digitales (Digital Humanities) abren paso a un nuevo método de estudiar la literatura y cultura hispánica. Las humanidades digitales sobrepasan los marcos teóricos tradicionales de la teoría y crítica literaria y los procesos de humanidades digitales ofrecen la oportunidad de volver a examinar las producciones culturales. Las humanidades digitales también proporcionan la habilidad de examinar la interseccionalidad entre la lingüística y la literatura y cultura, lo cual combina dos campos que tradicionalmente han quedado aislados. Por eso, este panel es una oportunidad para mostrar proyectos de humanidades digitales y/o métodos que incorporan herramientas digitales que interrogan la literatura y cultura hispánica, y/o los que combinan la lingüística y la literatura y cultura. Ofrece un espacio, donde los académicos y futuros académicos pueden aprender de investigaciones actuales de humanidades digitales y el español y plantear preguntas sobre el futuro del campo y la posibilidad de futuros proyectos posibles. Temas posibles incluyen, pero no están limitados a: humanidades digitales computacionales (Topic Modeling, Named Entry Recognition, Semantic Analysis, Sentiment Analysis, Text Encoding, Network Analysis), mapas y trabajos geográficos, archivos, publicaciones digitales. Se puede presentar en el inglés o el español. Para participar en este panel, favor de entregar un abstracto de 250-500 palabras que describa el proyecto y su marco metodológico al portal digital de NeMLA.
