As you may know, every year our forum has two guaranteed panel sessions for the MLA convention. The Executive Committee of the forum would like to consider ideas from as broad a range of our membership as possible. Please share your ideas for these sessions for the 2025 convention in New Orleans. At this stage it can be a general idea, without a list of participants. Here’s the timeline:2/6/24 submit your ideas by email to Patricia Sieber (incoming chair) sieber.6@osu.edu and Rania Huntington (outgoing chair) huntington@wisc.edu
2/15/24 You will be informed if your session has been selected as one of the guaranteed sessions. Even if it isn’t, you may be able to submit it as a non-guaranteed forum-sponsored session, and proposing a special session without forum sponsorship is always possible.
2/28/24 Deadline to post a call for papers to the MLA conference website.
See https://www.mla.org/Events/Planning-a-Convention-Session/Calls-for-Papers
4/1/24 Panel proposals due.
Early June: proposal decisions shared (for a guaranteed session, it will automatically be yes)
Also, thanks to the generous support of the Geiss-Hsu foundation, we can offer funding of up to a maximum of $2000 to support travel to the convention for a limited number of participants. Although application is open to all Ming or Ming-adjacent scholars, preference will be given to applicants with financial barriers to attendance: contingent faculty, graduate students, independent scholars, faculty at resource-poor institutions, and international scholars. Applications for the travel fund will be due August 15, 2024, with decisions shared in early September.
