Welcome! Philadelphia has hosted the MLA convention several times in this millennium and will do so again this January. For those of you who’ve attended those conventions—and certainly for many of us on staff—Philadelphia has become a home away from home. This year all sessions will take place at the Philadelphia Marriott, the Pennsylvania Convention Center, and the Loews Philadelphia, all conveniently located steps away from each other.

If you haven’t already registered for MLA 2024, take advantage of our 10% discount for members of this group by using code COMMONS10 when you register.

This year’s Program features over 770 sessions and events and 3,100 participants; almost 280 sessions address the presidential theme, Celebration: Joy and Sorrow. Want some guidance on which sessions to attend? Check out the curated lists and plan your schedule around your areas of interest.

Our updated information page has a new section on professional-development sessions—be sure to make time for these as well.

Join the 2024 MLA Convention group and create a group or blog for your session. Deposit your presentation on CORE, add the #mla24 tag, and link to the file from an annotation in the Program. Take advantage of the opportunity to make your session accessible for all attendees and broaden the conversation.

Make time to visit the exhibit hall for some free coffee as you explore over 55 exhibit booths, attend sessions on getting published, and get a bird’s eye view of the convention.

Want to explore beyond the convention venues? Check out the variety of exhibits at the city’s many museums, from Rising Sun: Artists in an Uncertain America at the African American Museum to The Shape of Time: Korean Art after 1989 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (free admission with your convention badge) to Data Nation: Democracy in the Age Of A.I. at the National Liberty Center.

Hungry? Thirsty? Reading Terminal Market’s right next door and Center City has a wide variety of restaurants at every price point. Philadelphia locals and fans: we’re counting on you to post your top tips, your favorite coffee spot, your picks for the best restaurants on a budget, the new (or new to you) museum you just discovered, on MLA Commons.

The MLA convention is created by members. Members organize sessions, from those proposed by individuals, to forum and committee sessions, to sessions sponsored by allied organizations. This is your convention–use code COMMONS10 to register today and come take part in it!
