About

William Mason is a composer, performer, and music scholar from Maine. He holds a PhD in music theory from Columbia University. His research examines how composers and performers have conceptualized of acousmatic electroacoustic music in terms of the construction and augmentation of real spaces, materials, and gestures. He is co-editor (with Amy Bauer and Liam Cagney) of the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of Spectral and Post-Spectral Music, and has contributed articles to Grove Music Online. He has presented his research internationally, including annual meetings of the Society for Music Theory and the American Musicological Society. He is active as a performer and composer; his music has been released commercially by New Amsterdam Records and Exit Stencil Records.

Mason is Associate Professor of Music at Wheaton College in Norton, MA.
