Shannon Marie Robinson started the topic does your library have a collection of architectural models? in the discussion
Architecture & Planning Section on ARLISNA Commons 1 week ago
[I posted this to AASL so apologies if you see this twice!]
I’m working with a library science student to inventory and develop policy for our architecture + fine art library’s “collection” of architectural models.
These models are mostly student work, ranging from full models in plexiglass cases to… junk. We also have models in our archival…[Read more]

Shannon Marie Robinson replied to the topic ARLIS Mexico City Meeting? in the discussion
Architecture & Planning Section on ARLISNA Commons 1 week, 1 day ago
Hi Aimee,
The meetings are happening virtually in the weeks before or after Mexico City. I submitted a date but it may be tentative as I have not heard back from ARLIS/NA. The dates / Zoom links for all meetings will be part of SCHED and they do not want more than 2 meetings in a time slot.
So, that said I submitted Tuesday, May 2 at 12pm CDT.…[Read more]

Apologies for the delay on this, but I’ve submitted a tentative date for our annual conference meeting, to be held via Zoom.
Please hold your calendar:
Wednesday, May 3 at 10am Pacific / 11am Mountain / 12pm Central / 1pm Eastern.
(I hope I got that correct. I’ve been on the west coast four months now and still don’t know what time it is!)

Thanks for speaking up, Tara! 🙂
My vote is May 2 or May 3 at 12pm, 1pm, or 2pm CDT.
As 11am CDT is 9am Pacific, I know it’s a rush to be right on time that early. Thoughts?

Happy New Year, Materials SIG!
I’ve stepped up to be the SIG coordinator (as ARLIS/NA informed us we didn’t have one?!). Basically, I’ve agreed to schedule a spring meeting for us because I’d love to meet y’all. So, here goes…
Meetings take place around the time of the conference, but are virtual so all can attend regardless of conference…[Read more]

Ah! See, great minds think alike. I *knew* there would be folks doing similar research and noticing a need for more comprehensive information on material collecting!
Siobhan, it sounds like you are a year or so ahead of me and I’ll reach out to learn what you’ve learned.
Mark, congrats on the sabbatical and I’m very happy to hear you are…[Read more]

Hey everyone,
I’m interested (as are the faculty) in starting at material sample collection as part of my new role at the University of Southern California. I’ve just started browsing the literature and notice that, while there are articles and book chapters that summarize planning and promoting a collection, there is little specificity in regard…[Read more]

Little is published about the information-seeking habits of contemporary Egyptian artists, a community of creative intellectuals at the forefront of the current political and cultural revolution in the Middle East. Using Susie Cobbledick’s and William S. Hemmig’s frameworks for understanding the information-seeking patterns of artists, this art…[Read more]

Shannon Marie Robinson deposited Artists as Scholars: The Research Behavior of Dance Faculty on ARLISNA Commons 2 months, 1 week ago
The research behaviors and library use of dance scholars are widely unknown, particularly in regard to issues of access to historical materials and new technology preferences. In the past thirty years, college and university dance departments in the United States have developed into independent, research-based programs. Despite the lack of current…[Read more]

In a politically charged social climate, many disciplines are inwardly grappling with historic ideologies and systems of oppression. Shannon Marie Robinson replied to the topic Native American Heritage Month: Indigenous Vernacular Architecture in the discussion
Architecture & Planning Section on ARLISNA Commons 2 months, 3 weeks ago
I like the “Where are My People?” series from ACSA. They have one on Native American, First Nations, and Indigenous. I’ve used these with students in conversation about professional practice. This study found the overwhelming reason indigenous find careers in architecture fields “was the responsibility to be a cultural protector or guardian.…[Read more]

Shannon Marie Robinson deposited Creating Radical Hope: Artistic and Speculative Library Responses to Climate Change on ARLISNA Commons 8 months, 1 week ago
Heat waves and wildfires, global pandemics, floods and droughts. We are already experiencing the damaging impact of climate change. Natural disasters put library facilities and collections at risk, while mass migration alters who uses libraries and why. Can we envision library futures that respond to the hopes, fears, and needs of our…[Read more]
