Joseph Gamble is a PhD candidate in the joint program in English and Women’s Studies. His dissertation, Sex Lives of the Early Moderns, offers an account of how women and men in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century England learned how to have sex. His second book project, Trans Philologies, takes up early modern philology as a tool for understanding how contemporary gender nonconforming folks render their lives livable in part by restructuring the English language.
