    Leigh A. Neithardt

The next election for this forum’s Delegate Assembly representative will be held in the fall of 2022, and the forum’s executive committee will take up the matter of nominations for this election when it meets in January 2022. Though the executive committee is responsible for making nominations, it is required to nominate at least one candidate who has been suggested by the forum’s membership (unless there are too few suggestions). I write to encourage you to submit your suggestions for the forum’s assembly representative.

Please go to for additional information about this election and Delegate Assembly service. If you would like to suggest yourself or another forum member for nomination, please send the following information by e-mail ( or by private message here on the Commons (@lneithardt): your name or the name of the member suggested; affiliation, department, and rank, if any; and a brief statement (100–200 words) of qualifications. The deadline for receipt of suggestions is 10 December 2021.

I am just giving Leigh’s notice a “bump” here: please do send Leigh your nominations!

Your current Exec Committee reps are Urvashi Chakravarty, András Kiséry, Drew Daniel (President) and Sujata Iyengar (Secretary).

Whom would you like to see as your representative on LLC Shakespeare? Let Leigh (@lneithardt) know!

Your Exec Committee generates topics for sessions, issues calls for papers and reviews them, organizes the sessions, and administers this (woefully under-used) asynchronous discussion forum.

It’s helpful if you can check in with the person you nominate and find out if they’d be interested in serving. These are valuable but unpaid positions that require you to attend MLA for a five-year stretch. (Unfortunately, the MLA is not able to help defray the costs of traveling to or attending the convention.) The work is very intensive during and for the first three months after MLA and quiet the rest of the year, barring spurts of activity in May, July, and September/October as the Convention Program goes to press and is published.

Want to meet us? We’ll all be at the LLC Shakespeare sessions, “Re-Reading Timon of Athens,” (Friday, 8.30-9.45, Marriott Marquis Dogwood); “Who Owns Shakespeare?” (Friday, 10.15-11.30, Marriott Marquis Gallaudet); “Shakespeare and White Supremacy” (Friday, 1.45-3, Marriott Marquis Dogwood). You can also search our names individually in the convention program.
