The International Theodore Dreiser Society will sponsor two panels at the American Literature Association Conference in Boston, MA on May 25-28, 2017.
Panel One: Open Topic
Papers are invited on any topic concerning Dreiser
Panel Two: Gender, Political Ideology, and Dreiser
Papers are invited on topics concerning political and gender contexts in Dreiser’s life and work. In the national election year of 2016, what would Dreiser say about the presidential contest? For example, about Trump as a candidate? Does he follow in the footsteps of the fictional Cowperwood? What about Hillary Clinton? Are there characters who foreshadow the female presidential candidate? Topics may include Dreiser’s political writings, fiction, plays, essays, autobiographies, and journalism.
Presentations will be limited to 20 minutes. Panelists are not required to be members of the International Theodore Dreiser Society.
Please email an abstract (250-350 words) for either panel, as well as a brief CV to the program chair by January 15, 2017.
