    The journal Comparative Literature Studies invites proposals for a special issue titled “Redesigning Modernities Part II,” edited by Waïl Hassan (U of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) and Maria Truglio (Penn State U). The issue solicits inquiries into the divergences, inequalities, and commonalities that define “modernity” in different parts of the world. What connotations has the word “modernity”—and its correlates in other languages—acquired as it has circulated in and among different cultures?

    Contributions may be up to 7,000 words in length. We
    welcome co-authored articles, pieces with a pedagogical focus, interviews, and experimental
    formats. Please send a proposal of no more than 500 words to Maria Truglio (mxt34@psu.edu)
    and Waïl Hassan (whassan@illinois.edu) by May 1, 2022. Please include a 200-300 word
    biography, and use “Redesigning Modernities” in the subject line of your email. Authors will be
    informed of provisional acceptance by June 15, 2022, and full articles will be due by May 30, 2023
