Special Session: Language and the City: An Ecolinguistic View of Philadelphia Spanish

We take our language for granted: its existence, its social, its cultural and its aesthetic values. Yet, no language is immortal as change is inexorable. In biodiversity, we fight to protect endangered species, mourn the extinction of others, and examine the wide-reaching human and ecological impacts. This session will explore ‘language’ and ‘ecology’, ‘life’ and ‘death’, ‘memory’ and ‘forgetfulness’ as interconnected themes underlying the persistence, variations, and disappearance of Philadelphia Spanish.

If interested in joining the session, please contact me galorenz@temple.edu for more information. April 1st is the deadline to submit the session proposal including a list of the panel members.
