The LLC Hungarian forum is a community of scholars and teachers interested in Hungarian literature and culture in Eastern Europe and far beyond. Our regular panels at MLA conventions have ranged from humor to literary criticism, and from feminism to translation studies, and we are currently proposing film, arts and travel topics for the next conference. We always welcome new members who are studying Hungarian literature and culture or would like to join the field!

As the incoming Chair of the MLA Hungarian Forum Executive Committee, I’m writing to invite the entire membership to our annual Business Meeting—this year on zoom, of course. It will be held on Friday, January 8, at 1:30pm EST.  Anyone from the membership is welcome to join this Business Meeting, whether or not you are planning to attend the convention.

Topic: MLA Hungarian Forum Executive Committee

MeetingTime: Jan 8, 2021 01:30 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)

    Join Zoom Meeting: https://zoom.us/j/96267312409

The other current members of the Executive Committee will be present (Martha Pereszlényi-Pinter, Secretary/Chair 2022, Helga Lenart-Chang, and Peter Czipott). I’d like to thank Lilla Bálint for her excellent work during her four-year term and especially for Chairing last year’s Committee; Lilla will be rotating off after this year. Congratulations to Catherine Portuges, who has just been elected to join the Committee starting in 2021.

[For those new to the MLA bureaucracy: the main responsibility of the Committee is to propose sessions for the MLA Convention, to coordinate the election of new members to the Committee, and to liaise with the MLA Forum’s representative to the Delegate Assembly.]

The two major agenda items for the Business Meeting will be:

    1. Possible nominees for the Forum Executive Committee
    2. Ideas for sessions for the 2022 MLA Convention

Hope to see some of you online on Friday! All best for a happy and healthy 2021.
