Our roundtable at MLA 2015 discussed teaching the history of the English language (HEL) and the challenges that arise despite and because of English’s global status and unprecedented media influence. Particular attention to how traditional approaches can include the burgeoning field of historical sociolinguistics, multimedia resources, and twenty-first-century Englishes.
