This special session seeks contributions that rethink the picaresque tradition from a colonial and post-colonial perspective.  Following the 2018 presidential theme, #States of Insecurity, papers may explore the journey of the precarious and vulnerable figure of the pícaro from Spain to Spanish America, and study how the picaresque is received, appropriated, remodeled, or transformed by the literary, social, economic, and political conditions in the Americas from the colonial period to the present. Send a 250-word abstract and one-page CV to Jorge Téllez (jtellez@sas.upenn.edu) by March 15th.
