What is the current state of hemispheric American ecocritical studies?  Where is the discipline headed? The newly formed Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment interest group “Ecocriticism of the Americas” offers a jam session to address these questions at the biannual conference in Davis, CA from June 26-29, 2019.  Panelists will answer a few informal rapid-fire queries aimed at identifying trends and issues of interest to a broad range of scholars working on the Americas, such as: What environmentally-oriented books are on your bedside table? What is the most important theoretical text you are currently reading or have read recently? What ecologically-aware films or other media are you watching? Which digital platforms do you seek out for information about your field? What ecocritical issues do you grapple with in your teaching? In what direction do you see the discipline moving? These questions aim to stimulate a free-flowing dialogue among the panelists and the audience members.  The ultimate objectives of the jam session are threefold: to bring visibility to the new “Ecocriticism of the Americas” interest group, to allow potential group members to get to know each other and exchange ideas, and to identify points of departure for future sessions, networks, courses, events, and publications.

Those interested in being panelists should submit an abstract of less that 500 words responding to the questions listed above by August 20 to charlotte.rogers@virginia.edu.
