Welcome to the LLC Arabic forum! Members of the forum define “Arabic,” in the broadest sense, as both a multi-ethnic language and a multilingual ethnic formation. Therefore, we are interested in works written in Arabic as well as in Arab writing in other languages. We are interested in Arabic literature from the classical to the contemporary period, and we welcome comparative approaches that encompass other languages and cultures of the Middle East as well as those of Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Australia.

Although our forum is young, approved by the MLA in 2009-2010, we have grown by leaps and bounds. Every year eight to twelve panels that pertain to Arabic literature and culture are approved by the MLA.

Please feel free to post pertinent announcements, call for papers, panels updates, and your suggestions. We look forward to hearing from all members.

Regards,

The Executive Committee of the LLC Arabic forum.

When this forum’s executive committee meets during the upcoming convention in Philadelphia, it will take up the matter of nominations for the fall 2017 election of a new Delegate Assembly representative for the forum. Though the executive committee is responsible for making nominations, it is required to nominate at least one candidate who has been suggested by the forum’s membership (unless there are too few suggestions). I write to encourage you to submit your suggestions for the forum’s assembly representative.

Please go to https://governance.mla.hcommons.org for additional information about this election and Delegate Assembly service. If you would like to suggest yourself or another forum member for nomination, please send the following information by e-mail (governance@mla.org) or by private message here on the Commons (@carolzuses): your name or the name of the member suggested; affiliation, department, and rank, if any; and a brief statement (100–200 words) of qualifications. The deadline for receipt of suggestions is 19 December 2016.
