“Affective Approaches to the Study of Contemporary Spanish LGBTQI Culture” is a working group accepted for inclusion in the 2020 MLA Convention in Seattle. You can find the working group’s participants papers here. This group addresses how queer affects and emotions represented in cultural texts on or by LGBTQI people contribute to producing, disseminating, and transforming contemporary Iberian cultures. We consider the challenges that texts in any of the languages of the Spanish State pose to received notions of national identities, immigration, hegemonic gender positions, historical memory, and, most importantly, the intellectual conceptualization of the human experience.
