Remembering Antonio Candido

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
You are cordially invited for a memorial gathering in honor of Professor Antonio Candido at the MLA convention in New York City. The meeting will be held on Saturday, 6 January, 7:15-8:30 p.m., in the East Gramercy room at the Hilton.
 
We will read remembrances by Howard S. Becker, Professor of Sociology, Emeritus, University of Washington; Victor Brombert, Henry Putnam University Professor of Romance Languages and Literatures and Comparative Literature, Emeritus, Princeton University, and Professor Marisa Lajolo, Universidade Estadual de Campinas.
There will be short presentations by Renata Wasserman, Professor of English and Comparative Literature, Emerita, Wayne State University; Pedro Meira Monteiro, Arthur W. Marks ’19 Professor of Spanish and Portuguese, Princeton University; Luiza Franco Moreira, Professor of Comparative Literature, Binghamton University; César Braga-Pinto, Associate Professor of Brazilian, Lusophone African and Comparative Literature, Northwestern University, and Thayse Lima, Assistant Professor, University of Maryland.
 
Those in the audience will be welcome to share their recollections of Antonio Candido, as well as their reflections on his work and career.
