The Italian Program at the University of Arkansas would like to invite you to a lecture by Prof. Jane Tylus (Yale University), “What Does it Take to Make a Saint? Medieval Women, Yesterday and Today,” on Monday, March 22, at 6:00pm CST.

Prof. Tylus’s talk will consider several saintly women of late medieval Italy, Clare of Assisi, Catherine of Siena, and Bridget of Sweden, and ask how their interventions into the religious, social, and political life of their day were seen by their contemporaries and how they are interpreted today. Of special interest in assessing their relevance for the 21st century are two recent works on Catherine and Clare by novelist Dacia Mariani, one of Italy’s best-known writers.
