- Abstract:
- On May 21, 2012, more than 52 Dalit-backward families were forced to leave their village after a dispute with dominant caste people in Bhagana (Bhagana) village of Haryana. The dispute started with the removal of possession of Shamlat land. The dominant community had socially boycotted them. Two years after this incident, on March 23, 2014, 4 girls of Dhanuk community of Bhagana village were abducted and gang-raped by boys of Dabang community. In protest against these incidents, people of Dalit-backward community of Bhagana village continuously demonstrated for months at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, in which JNU students and various social organizations actively participated. In the article uploaded here, Pramod Ranjan, who was involved in the Bhagana movement, has questioned the role of the media on Dalit issues.
