    Abstract:
Whose realities are not encompassed in our current “real world” of food systems and processes? This critical, speculative design project consists of three mushroom labels that are inspired by Ursula Franklin’s four layers of reality: constructed, extended, vernacular and projected. Franklin claims that while everyone experiences each reality layer, constructed realities, which are archetypal representations depicted in the media, overwrite people’s daily direct experiences. Through three separate mushroom labels, this project aims to illustrate the various realities that co-exist when it comes to the production of mushrooms, paying specific attention to the current conditions of mushroom harvesters and the projected realities for the future of robotic harvesting.
