    Abstract:
    The 'One Thousand and One Nights' is a collection of stories of unknown authors, of Indian, Persian, and Arabic origin, dating back to the Middle Ages, that has gained incredible global popularity over the centuries. This is an introductory guide about the One Thousand and One Nights, including modern translations and adaptations, resources on their history and context, as well as information on the world of the tales and Islamic art and literature more generally. It also includes a section on the context of Orientalism in relation to the tales, to shed light on how and why they came to be so popular in the West, and to enable the reader to engage with them with an awareness of issues such as depicting ethnic stereotypes in works of literature, art, and entertainment, and the resulting real-life repercussions.
