My teaching centers upon English literature of the 16th and 17th century, especially the drama of Shakespeare, Marlowe and Jonson and the poetry of Spenser and Milton, but I also frequently teach the intersection of that literary archive with political philosophy, metaphysics, medical writing, affect theory, eco-materialism, queer theory and psychoanalysis. In a separate stream of writing and thinking, I work on musical subculture and performance. When I’m not doing those things, I also make electronic music with my partner in a group called Matmos and by myself as The Soft Pink Truth.
Kendra Preston Leonard is a musicologist and music theorist whose work focuses on women and music in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries; and music and screen history, particularly music and adaptations of Shakespeare; and a librettist and poet. She is the founder and Executive Director of the Silent Film Sound and Music Archive (www.sfsma.org) and the founder and manager of Shakespeare in Early Film (https://sheaf.hcommons.org/).
My name is Carlos D. Acosta-Ponce and I was born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico and raised in the nearby township of Hormigueros. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in English, as well as a Master’s degree in English Education from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. I also hold a Master’s Degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma, where I am currently a doctoral candidate working on my dissertation titled Identity, Oppression, and Upheaval in the British Invasion: The Comics of Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Peter Milligan, and Jamie Delano. My research interests are comprehensive and are rooted in the intersections between literature, popular culture and media. My expertise is in Contemporary American Literature and Transatlantic Modernism with an emphasis in graphic literature, comic studies, and media studies. I am also interested in cultural studies, literary theory and criticism, film studies and theory, video game studies,gender studies, digital humanities, and pedagogy. I am currently in the process of writing my dissertation on depictions of minoritized social identity categories in British Invader comics from the late 1980s. My ultimate career objective is to obtain a tenure-track position at a leading research university. In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, video games, and music.
I am a Lecturer in French Film at the University of Bristol. I am currently working on a book project that explores ‘listening spaces’ in contemporary French and Francophone documentaries, with a focus on the documentary convention of the filmed interview. Part of this project is particularly concerned with works by the Belgian filmmaker Chantal Akerman. Other research interests that dovetail with this project include sound studies, musicology and listening, queer studies, and feminist queer theory and intersectionality. My first monograph Godard and Sound: Acoustic Innovation in the Late Films of Jean-Luc Godard was published by I.B.Tauris in 2017 and explores the relationship of sound to vision in cinema and in turn our relationship as spectators with the audiovisual in a selection of post-1979 films by Jean-Luc Godard.
In 16th -century French studies, my main interests are lyric poetry, literature and political thought, literature and philosophy, and Anglo-French literary relations. My other interests include critical theory, American literature and American studies, Quebec studies, cinema, politics of the profession, and alternate disciplinary organizations of literature.
